The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center

Created to remember and honor the thousands of innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001, The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center will open on the tenth anniversary of the attacks on America.  Covering eight of the 16 acres at the World Trade Center, this deeply moving memorial features twin reflecting pools which sit in the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood.  The walls of the reflecting pools create the largest man-made waterfalls in North America and have bronze parapets inscribed with the names of the 2,982 people killed in the attacks of September 11, 2011 and February 26, 1993.  Eventually, a grove of more than 400 oak trees will surround the pools.

The Memorial Museum’s Mission Statement

The National September 11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center will bear solemn witness to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The Museum will honor the nearly 3,000 victims of these attacks and all those who risked their lives to save others. It will further recognize the thousands who survived and all who demonstrated extraordinary compassion in the aftermath. Demonstrating the consequences of terrorism on individual lives and its impact on communities at the local, national, and international levels, the Museum will attest to the triumph of human dignity over human depravity and affirm an unwavering commitment to the fundamental value of human life.

To visit this breathtaking memorial, join DHI’s New York Sightseeing Tour on Wednesday, October 26th or make arrangements to visit on your own.  While there is no admittance fee to the memorial, reservations must be made in advance and can be done online.
