Scott Colby

Governor

Principal, Architectural Concepts

Scott has been fortunate to have worked in the Door and Hardware Industry for over 23 years.  He has worked on both the Manufacturing and Distribution sides of the business.  Scott graduated from the University of Arizona, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and an emphasis in Marketing.  After College, he went to work for Georgia Pacific Industries as an Inside Sales Representative, selling interior and exterior doors, prehung units and millwork.  His primary customers were Home Depot, Lumber Yards and Residential Door Shops. From there he was promoted to Outside Sales and covered the state of Arizona.  Scott was then recruited as an Operations Manager for Smith Moulding Wholesale.  They were a manufacturer and distributor of all types of Millwork Products.  He then proceeded to get them into prehanging interior and exterior doors and stocking Masonite products.  They also began to stock residential hardware and closet components.  Scott was then recruited to be the National Field Sales Representative for Sierra Pine LTD, the second largest manufacturer of MDF, Particle Board, MDF Mouldings and Specialty Products in the world.  He helped grow their business in the Door Manufacturing Segment.  Scott was then recruited by TruStile Doors, to be their National Sales Manager, where he helped grow their residential business.  He was then promoted to Vice President of Commercial Sales, where he was instrumental on growing their commercial presence with Marriott, Hilton, IHG and the Commercial Door and Hardware Industry. Scott was involved in writing door and hardware specifications for Marriott and Hilton.  They wanted better doors, than your typical Flush Door.  Marriott and Hilton had a tough time getting stile and rails doors on their Hotels, as they kept being value engineered by DFH Houses. This is where he saw a need for a different kind of DFH company, that could service the Hospitality Industry and custom commercial markets, without having it cost a fortune to the owners.  Scott saw how antiquated the industry was and knew he could make an impact.  From that notion, he started Architectural Concepts in 2007 and have been in business for over 14 years.  They cover all of North America and the Islands and is a unique breed of distributor in that, they Manufacture their own Stile and Rail, MDF Doors, Storefront, Curtain Wall, Infill Window Systems, Shower Doors, Cultured Marble Surrounds, Pans, Doors, Frames, Hardware along with Preinstallation Services.  Architectural Concepts is really trying to create a unique hybrid that brings a lot of value to their General Contractors and Owners.
