The Door and Hardware Institute (DHI) is excited to introduce a new course and rename and restructure another.
The door security and safety landscape continues to evolve, increasing the need for professionals with expertise in electrified architectural hardware and connected opening systems.
To support these changing industry needs, DHI is updating its Education Pathway with two key developments: the launch of COR132: Basic Electrified Architectural Hardware, and the renaming and restructuring of COR133 as DHC233: Electrified Architectural Hardware Systems.
Introducing COR132: Basic Electrified Architectural Hardware
DHI is expanding its educational offerings with the launch of COR132, a new addition to the Education Pathway. This course covers the fundamentals of low-voltage electricity, electrical circuits and access control system components, helping you build a strong foundation in electrified architectural hardware.
This course provides you with the basic principles of low-voltage electricity and the main components of a circuit work together. You will explore how the individual components are used together to create simple access control systems. We will also review the effect of codes and standards on product selection. At the end of this course, the learner will have a better understanding of:
- Simple electrical terms
- Electrical circuits
- Difference between alternating current and direct current
- System components and how they are used
- Required elements to provide complete and correct systems
Students who have previously completed the COR133 course are not required to complete this course to apply for the DHT Certificate.
The course kicks off on Dec. 10. Register here.
Introducing DHC233: Electrified Architectural Hardware Systems
Formerly offered is COR133, this course has been renamed and restructured as DHC233 to reflect the updated Education Pathway.
DHC233 takes learners beyond the fundamentals and into the practical application of electrified opening systems. Through hands-on learning experiences, participants will develop the skills needed to coordinate, design, and troubleshoot low-voltage electrified hardware systems with confidence.
Participants will learn how to:
- Design and interpret low-voltage circuits and wiring diagrams
- Coordinate power requirements for electrified openings
- Develop operational descriptions for opening systems
- Apply troubleshooting techniques to real-world scenarios
- Bridge the gap between architectural hardware and electronic security systems
Students who have previously completed the COR133 course are not required to complete this course to apply for the DHC Certificate.
An Updated Educational Journey
These updates reflect DHI’s continued efforts to align its Education Pathway with the knowledge and competencies professionals need in today's marketplace.
With the introduction of COR132 and the transition from COR133 to DHC233, DHI is continuing to develop learning opportunities for professionals looking to strengthen their expertise in door security and safety.
